I began teaching in February of 2004 at the high school level as a general education teacher and coached Drill Team. I have been a Special Day teacher in Special Education since February of 2014 and still coach Drill Team and I was responsible for the marching band from 2010 until June of 2015. I have also taught Health, AVID 9 elective, Life Skills, Health Careers, Summer Bridge English and Math and Spanish 1.
Teaching is a passion that I have and have always felt I was good at ever since I was a child. I always taught my friends games, dances, or things that I learned myself and wanted to pass on to others. Now as a professional teacher I have continued to master my craft and I am still growing and improving as an educator. Teaching is something that you must learn to improve upon on a daily basis and you never stop learning yourself. So not only are you a teacher but you are a student as well. As a teacher you have to be silly, funny, crazy, serious, and caring all at the same time.
I don't believe in tests or quizzes, I feel that creating a fun and interactive classroom is the best way to "test" students knowledge. Making learning relevant to the students is the best way to get them to remember what you talked about in class. I tell stories at least 3 times a week and this is very entertaining for my students, they all say, "ssshhhh, it's story time!"
My students have told me on more than one occasion, "you should write a book" and "How come you have so many stories?" and "Do you have a story about everything?"
I love to make my students laugh and at the end of the day what is most important to me is that they walk away with a life lesson!
"Students don't care how much you know until they know how much you care!" Anonymous
